Bob Kling - painter, potter, writer, photographer & educator
Kling has been an art educator for over 50 years, 33 as an award winning high school art teacher. He is currently an adjunct faculty member at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa and a College Supervisor of Student Teaching for both Simpson College and Graceland University. He was the art teacher at Mormon Trail Community Schools for 12 years and the chair of the art dept. at Indianola High School for 22 years. He has taught drawing, painting, graphic design, digital imaging, film photography, art history, ceramics and sculpture.
"I have had the priviledge of teaching at Simpson College since 2004. I was in charge of the art education major and taught elementary and secondary art methods classes, supervised art practicum students and student teachers and taught drawing, painting, design and digital imaging. I currently teach classes in the education department. I am also a board member of BRAVO Greater Des Moines, which distributes over $4 million to Central Iowa art, science and cultural organizations."
Kling is also the president of the Indianola Public Arts Commission and Vice President of the North River Arts Council. In addition to his visual arts endeavors, he was a member of the Indianola City Council. He was also a newspaper columnist for over 29 years for The Record-Herald and Indianola Tribune. Kling graduated from Shenandoah High School and received his B.A. in art education from the University of Northern Iowa and his M.A. in painting, also from UNI. Bob and his wife, Susie, live in Indianola, Iowa where his painting and pottery studios are located. They both enjoy traveling throughout Europe and Mexico and Bob incorporates his favorite destinations into many of his works. He is also an avid gardener and you will see many of his gardening results in in artwork.
